I cover the topic of Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) in my newest realistic novel, My Body Is Calling, written to raise health awareness about self-destructive choices that affect our mind, body, spirit, and heart.

Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) is a Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) with approximately 100 strains, close to 30 affect the genital area, 13 of those are considered high-risk HPV types that can cause cervical cancer in women.

There is no cure for HPV. It usually goes away on its own. Safe sex and abstinence might decrease chances of infection. Know your status: Get regular check ups!

Among US adults aged 18 to 69 years, 42.5% are infected with a genital HPV and 7.3% are infected with an oral HPV, researchers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported April 6, 2017.

Prevalence of oral and genital HPV infection was higher in men than women in two recent national surveys.

Prevalence of any genital HPV was higher among men than women overall, as well as among non-Hispanic white adults and non-Hispanic black adults.

Prevalence of both any and high-risk genital HPV was lowest among non-Hispanic Asian adults, whereas the prevalence was highest among non-Hispanic black adults.
